Winter Seed Sowing with Wild Seed Project
with Wild Seed Project
$30
Join us at Viles Arboretum for seed saving and sowing! Led by Wild Seed Project, this workshop will focus on how to process native perennial seeds to prepare them for winter. We will also learn about the diverse plants that frow here in Maine and their unique seed collection and seed sowing processes. We will guide a hands-on exploration of the many steps of growing native plants from seed, and establishing diverse landscapes using seed-grown plants.
Weather permitting, we'll start with a walk to identify native plants you may (or may not!) recognize and demonstrate ecologically-responsible seed collecting practices for those plants. Then participants will get to practice winter seed sowing themselves. Everyone will sow two pots: one to take home, and one to leave at Viles Arboretum.
Please register to attend. Members of Viles Arboretum recieve a discount!
Viles Arboretum has about 30 parking spaces. If the lot is full when you arrive, you can park in the Piggery Road park-and-ride and follow our trail back to the barn.
We strive to make our programs accessible to all who wish to attend. Our buildings are handicap accessible. If you wish to attend but are concerned about your ability to access our trails, please reach out to our office and we'll work with you to identify spaces you'll be able to access.
